Global Change Paleobiology. The future for paleontology
Data: Martedì, 12 Febbraio, 2013 - 16:30
Aula: Aula Arduino
Relatore: Prof. Wolfgang Kiessling
Abstract:
Paleontologists have long claimed to use the history of life to predict the
future, but rarely do so in an explicit way. To secure long-term survival of
the discipline, we need to develop a research program that contributes
directly to current problems associated with global change. Global Change
Paleobiology is the science of linking large-scale patterns in the fossil
record with global environmental change and has the aim to inform ecologists
and conservation biologists on expected ecological and evolutionary impacts
of global warming and habitat loss.
